This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the freight dispatch and brokering industry, including the skills and knowledge necessary to start brokering freight. Students will learn about licensing and operations, sales and marketing, and other key aspects of the industry. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to pursue employment opportunities as office dispatch employees in a freight brokerage or agency. 

Course Objectives: 

  • To provide students with a basic understanding of the freight dispatch and brokering industry. 
  • To introduce students to the legal and regulatory requirements for operating a freight brokerage. 
  • To teach students the skills necessary to manage and dispatch freight effectively. To provide students with an understanding of sales and marketing principles as they apply to the freight brokering industry. 
  • To prepare students for entry-level employment opportunities in the freight brokering industry. 

COURSE SYLLABUS:  

Week 1-3: Module 1: Introduction to the Freight Dispatch & Brokering Industry 

  • Overview of the industry 
  • Key players in the industry 
  • Current trends and challenges 

Unit 2: Legal and Regulatory Requirements 

  • Federal regulations and licensing requirements 
  • State-specific requirements 
  • Insurance and liability considerations 

Week 4-8: Operations and Dispatching

  • The role of the dispatcher 
  • Freight management and logistics 
  • Carrier selection and negotiations 

Unit 4: Sales and Marketing 

  • Customer acquisition and retention 
  • Advertising and promotion 
  • Building a strong brand 

Week 9-12:: Practical Applications 

  • Case studies and real-world examples 
  • Hands-on experience with industry software and tools 
  • Mock scenarios and role-playing exercises 

Assessment: 

  • Quizzes and exams to test comprehension of course material 
  • Assignments and projects to apply concepts and principles to real-world scenarios 
  • Class participation and engagement in discussions and group activities Grading Policy: 
  • Quizzes and exams: 30% 
  • Assignments and projects: 10% 
  • Class participation: 80%

The total charge for a period of attendance is $3,750. The estimated schedule of total charges for the entire educational program is $6,000.

Non-refundable registration fee of $250 is due at registration.
